Transpetro will offer state of the art technological resources for naval sector training

Transpetro will open the doors to its training center to meet the needs of market starting in September. Previously we basically offered training to employees, but we will now make available to external clients all state of the art technological resources used in our courses to train seagoing teams. The only company in the Southern Hemisphere with deck simulators and connected machinery simulators, Transpetro offers in its portfolio various services that include theoretical and practical courses with the uses of simulators; customized training employing scenarios, equipment and conditions defined by the client; and licensing for use of simulator software (SMH Training).

Highlighted among the state of the art technology is the Maritime and Waterways Simulator (SMH), which this month received an A classification from Det Norske Veritas (DNV-GL), Norwegian classification society that certifies vessels and oil rigs and is accredited by the Brazilian Maritime Authority. In addition to the international recognition of the excellence of the mathematical model developed with 100% Brazilian technology and the company’s proprietary patent, the certification represents technological independence for Transpetro in an area that promises exponential growth, with the incorporation of new technologies such as digital twin, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Thus we are the first in Latin America with “A” classification by  Norwegian classification society DNV-GL.

The SMH is completely integrated to the Machine Simulator and to the High Voltage Simulator. With the use of augmented reality (3D goggles), this simulator is currently the only in Brazil to provide immersion compatible with the engine room of a vessel, composed of a Control Room, Engine Room, Emergency Generator Compartment and Steering Gear. On the other hand the High Voltage Simulator, also unique in the company, allows for students to undergo procedures for handling high voltage switchgear using virtual reality.

Immersive learning environment that combines theory with practice

The simulators represent a consolidation of 70 years of maritime experience of Transpetro and the National Oil Tanker Fleet (Fronape). They allow for training that virtually and precisely reproduce the complex activities and the different scenarios encountered by workers in day to day routines. The tool allows for simulating operations considering weather, wave, wind and marine current conditions, for the purpose of testing the actions and reactions of workers in problem resolution, In a controlled and predictable environment, it is possible to analyze the operational efficiency and issue guidelines regarding the expected response to the situation being tested, preventing accidents. It is possible to adapt the scenarios inserted in the simulator to the reality being tested. Due to the accuracy of its software, it is also possible to perform engineering analyses for conducting maneuvers, an important resource for port operators.

The simulator project originated from a partnership between Transpetro, Leopoldo Américo Miguez de Mello  Research and Development Center (Cenpes) of Petrobras, and the University of São Paulo (USP). It’s final development, in order to meet the classification requirements, included the support by Technomar, a technology based Brazilian company. Currently, in addition to the Maritime and Waterways Simulator (full mission), with an "A" classification, we have two part task type simulators, which received a "B" classification by the international  classification society. We now operate independently with the simulator park, an integral part of the company’s training center, the Transpetro Academy.

In 2019, the simulators received the ANP Innovation Award granted by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel Agency (ANP) in the “Technological Innovation” category. They also were runner-up in the “Innovative Initiatives” category of the 2019 Antaq Award by the National Waterways Transportation Agency.
