Transpetro mobilizes communities in 13 States to celebrate Safety Day on the Easement Strips

Transpetro reiterated today (8/16) its commitment to safety and life and environmental preservation during the 168 Day events that mobilized communities in 13 Brazilian states. The activities, for the purpose of raising awareness and advising the population regarding the importance of preservation of the pipelines operated by the company, marked Safety Day on the Easement Strips, an event created 6 years ago.

Transpetro President Sergio Bacci attended the event held in the community of Jardim Itápolis on the east zone of São Paulo. Touched by the poetry from the youth of the Slam HP collective in Jardim Penha, Bacci agreed with the students and promised improvements to the community. “We were informed you want a children’s park and we will comply’, he stated while thanking the event participants.

Bacci emphasized the importance of preservation of the easement strip for the safety of the population. “Our pipelines traverse the entire country carrying fuel and energy to the cities and their residents. It is important to continue to strengthen our relations with those communities where we are present. Today’s events are a step in this direction, reiterating our social and environmental commitment”, affirmed the Transpetro President.

To promote activities that reflect the profile of each community, Transpetro invested in diverse actions. The highlight is the partnership with public agencies and private entities to provide a series of relevant and free services to the residents in the vicinity of the easement strips. Offerings ranged from documents issue to lab exams to legal services and beauty services. Among the partners were local municipalities, Sebrae, OAB, Senai, PoupaTempo and Hemocentro among others.

Graffiti art on the community walls, through a new phase of the 168 in Colors Project, was also uses as a tool to promote awareness in the population. Local artists drew art pertaining to the topic, in order to increase confidence in the safety of the pipelines, alert residents to care for the sites, create empathy with the brand and enhance the reputation of the company.

The 168 in Colors was held in the states of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná e Bahia, in addition to the Federal  Distrito Federal. Other activities were conducted in  Alagoas, Amazonas, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro and Sergipe.

The importance of creating a direct communication channel.

The three digit 168 hotline, created six years ago, is the channel through which the population in the vicinity of the pipelines can ask questions, make suggestions, or report suspicious activity in the easement strips or surrounding areas, such as night activities, strong fuel odor, or the presence of vehicles and people with hoses and other equipment. Confidentiality is ensured, the call is free and the hotline operates 24/7.

The company recorded a drop in the number of thefts from 201 in 2020 to 58 in 2022, as a result of Transpetro’s joint efforts with authorities and public safety agencies, in addition to community support. However, a single accident has the potential of causing serious consequences, such as fires, explosions, spills, pollution and contamination of environmentally sensitive areas. For this reason Transpetro continues to promote awareness and prevention, alerting to the risks of criminal acts.
