Luiz Eduardo Valente becomes President of Transpetro

The inauguration ceremony for chemical engineer Luiz Eduardo Valente as President of Transpetro was held on Tuesday (09/28). The event was restricted to few persons due to the pandemic and was attended by the President of Petrobras, Joaquim Silva e Luna, the Executive Director for Sales and Logistics for Petrobras, Claudio Mastella, in addition to the President of the Board of Directors of Petrobras and Transpetro, respectively Eduardo Bacellar Leal Ferreira and Rafael Chaves Santos. 

Valente’s appointment was approved by the Transpetro Board of Directors at its meeting on Friday (09/24) after fulfilling the internal corporative governance procedures. The new President was previously Services Director for the company, a position he will fill concurrently until a new director is appointed. 

 In his speech, Petrobras President Silva e Luna emphasized that Transpetro is the most relevant subsidiary of the Petrobras System, with high operational maturity and an experienced technical team. “This is reflected in the results and records that have been achieved by the company. I am certain engineer Luiz Eduardo Valente will preside Transpetro with a focus on safety and efficiency, bringing the company even closer to the controller, in accordance with the group’s interests and in compliance with regulations”, he stated. 

Director Claudio Mastella celebrated Valente’s appointment as President of Transpetro. “I reiterate two words that describe the professional that takes over the Presidency of such an important arm of Petrobras: competence and reliability. It is a deserved position that will incorporate many years of dedication to the company. I hope we can work together to meet the market’s needs with greater competitiveness and agility”, he affirmed. 

A career employee of the Petrobras System, with over 40 years of services rendered, Valente in his inauguration speech expressed gratitude for the confidence in an ‘old oilman” with a lifetime of dedication to the Petrobras System.  “I highlight a few key words to govern our administration: safety, focus on people, integration with the Petrobras System, availability of assets, logistic flexibility, efficiency, resource optimization and respect for the environment”, he listed. 

About the President

A chemical engineering graduate of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Luiz Eduardo Valente Moreira has a post-graduate degree in Petroleum Processing Engineering from UFRJ. He has an Executive MBA from COPPEAD (UFRJ). 

He started his career at Petrobras in 1980, where he has served as General Manager of the  President Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), of Refining Technology for Supply at the Henrique Laje Refinery (Revap) and of the Nitrogenated Fertilizer Factory in Bahia. He also occupied the functions of Executive Manager for Gas-Chemical and Liquefaction in the Gas and Energy area, HSE Corporate Executive Manager and Executive Manager of the Industrial Refining and Natural Gas area. 

At Braskem, he was Director of the Comperj Phase II and Vice-president of Investments and Digital Technologies. 

At Transpetro, he had been Services Director since 07/01/2020.
