Operational safety and efficiency success experiences are highlights of Rio Pipeline

Investment in safety and operational efficiency was the highlight of Transpetro’s presence on the third day of  Rio Pipeline (8/10). Company professionals shared with the market success cases that demonstrate how it is possible to increase performance, reduce costs and evolve a safety culture.

In the workshop on management of the control room and cybernetic security, the Human Factor Coordinator, Luana Marques, and Operations Manager of the National Control and Logistics Center(CNCL), Ediney Sopper, presented how Transpetro manages its control room, associating human factors that impact improvement in operational performance.

Ediney highlighted actions that include measures such as managing workloads, learning the lessons from the day-to-day of the operation, and training, among others. “We were able to advance with more mature processes in our control center, which plays an essential role by operating all systems remotely, and improve our operational safety”. Luana reiterated the aspects where the company may act. “We study the day-to-day, work with human factors and improve work performance conditions to facilitate success”, highlighted the coordinator.

Technical Competency in the service of safety

The technical works also included examples of actions already implemented and studies to improve operational safety. The engineer from the Pipeline Repair Center (Creduto) of Transpetro, Maximilian Mainardi, presented a work que demonstrated the economic and safety advantages of installation of side samplers in tanks through welding and trepanning without need for tank stoppage.

Mainardi stated that with the change there was a savings of US$ 70 thousand per tank in an experiment at the São Caetano Terminal at year end. “ The adoption of these samplers has an impact on safety improvement because it allows for samples to be removed with less operator exposure to hydrocarbon vapors”, he explained.

On the other hand engineer Rangel Rufatto shared improvements implemented in work method of executing a maintenance service at the  Almirante Soares Dutra Terminal (Tedut) in Osório (RS), which is the replacement of subsea line, one of the most challenging activities within the routine maintenance of single point mooring systems.

"We identified the need to make adaptations to improve the safety of the divers that execute this type of service, and additionally the use of tools to bring about greater efficiency, reducing the total activity time and consequently minimizing the downtime of the single point mooring system", detailed Rufatto,  mentioning as examples of measures to be taken the prior launching of the subsea line on the seabed, use of lift bags for lifting the line, adaptation of the dive team, and use of new hydraulic tools.

The Integrity Coordinator, Marcelo Oliveira Siqueira, presented an analysis of a critical case of fire that occurred in an atmospheric storage tank in Cuba, in order to determine what type of preventive actions we could eventually adopt aligned with the company’s safety culture.

"We conducted detailed research regarding the causes of the incident in Cuba and discussed how we could improve the safety measures already adopted”, informed the coordinator. The topic was already discussed in multiple internal forums and the current phase is the defining of possible actions.
