On Thursday April 4th Petrobras announced that its Executive Board had approved three Transpetro appointments: Sergio Hermes Martello Bacci as President, Fernando Mascarenhas Cavalcanti de Barros as Finance Director and Jones Alexandre Barros Soares as Maritime Transport, Pipelines and Terminals Director.
The appointments are subject to election by the Board of Directors to be held on April 27th.
Sergio Hermes Martello Bacci is a business administration graduate at Senator Flaquer Integrated Colleges Institution in Santo André. He has over 20 years of experience in the naval and offshore sector and logistics and maritime transportation, having directed major companies such as Asgaard Navegação S.A., Opmar Serviços Marítimos Ltda. and Bram Offshore. The announcement further highlighted Bacci’s important role as Sinaval representative at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCDE) in fostering the growth of the Brazilian naval industry. He was also Development Secretary for Transportation Activities in the Ministry of Transportation, with highlight on activities to modernize road, waterway and port infrastructure legislation.
Fernando Mascarenhas Cavalcanti de Barros is an electronic engineering graduate from the University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) with a Masters’ in Digital Systems /Computer Networks - MSc from COPPE / UFRJ. He did post-graduate study in Marketing at PUC RJ and Business Management at Dom Cabral Foundation (FDC), where he concluded a Business Management MBA. An executive with 22 years of experience in the aviation, navigation, mining and steel industries, he held global and local leadership positions at Varig S.A., Vale S.A. and Vale Group companies as Executive Manager for Global Financial Analysis and Planning (FPEA), Executive Vice-President for Administration and Finance, CFO, at California Steel Industries (CSI), a Vale Group company, Senior Investor Relations Manager, General Manager for Tugboat Operations, and General Manager for Navigation Market Intelligence, among others.
Jones Alexandre Barros Soares has a bachelor’s degree in Nautical Sciences from the Almirante Braz Aguiar Instruction Center and a Master’s in Service Management from the University Institute of Lisbon. He completed several courses such as an MBA in Business from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, Negotiation and Leadership from Harvard Law School and Ship Management and Logistics from Cambridge Academy of Transport in the UK. He has worked in the Petrobras system for 31 years and at Transpetro for 22 years, with vast experience in the operations area, accumulating over 4,000 days of navigation as a deep sea captain and as captain of Petrobras Transportation – Fronape merchant ships. He has held management positions for 23 years, notable among them Ship Operations Executive Manager and Transpetro International BV Director. He is a member of the Merchant Marine Captain Center, Brazilian Maritime Law Association - ABDM, IFSMA (International Federation of Shipmasters’ Associations), the Nautical Institute of London and NAMEPA - The North American Marine Environment Protection Association.
Petrobras also thanked Luiz Eduardo Valente Moreira and Roberto David Mendes da Silva for their important contributions and dedication at the head of Transpetro.
