Thefts from pipelines we operate drop 60% in SP

In May we recorded a reduction of 60% in thefts from pipelines we operate in São Paulo. In comparison with the prior month, the number fell from 23 to 9 criminal acts, with a change in direction of the curve, which since the start of the second semester of 2019 had only been increasing. Even so, last year there 12 occurrences recorded in the month of May, 30% more than were recorded for the same period this year.
São Paulo is the state that records the highest number of criminal activity on the pipelines operated by the company, and for this reason is the largest focus of our efforts to prevent clandestine tapping, which poses risks to the communities and the environment. The result is derived from the integration of military and civil police work together with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the state. During this period, two gangs that operated mainly in the municipalities of Vinhedo and Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, both in the interior of the state, were arrested in the act.
We thank the community for their support and engagement in the use of the reporting channel, phone number 168, and emphasize the importance of the cooperation by the residents in the vicinity of the pipelines in order to reduce the danger posed by these criminal activities. Confidentiality is assured, the call is free and the phone line operates 24/7. All residents may call in the event they detect any suspicious activity in the easement strip and surrounding areas, such as people or heavy vehicles operating near the pipelines or a strong fuel odor. The company also makes available WhatsApp number (21) 999920-168, through which the resident may contribute by sending images and videos.
We prioritize the preservation of life and strive to protect people and the environment. In partnership with public agencies and the community, we will continue to act relentlessly to mitigate the risks these crimes represent to society.
