Transbel: LPG storage and handling auction with satisfactory results

The capacities auction for liquified petroleum gas (LPG) storage spheres of Transbel was deemed a success. Held on December 12th in electronic mode, there were four winning companies: NGB, Copa, Ultragaz and Supergasbras. Transbel will provide storage and handling services for LPG, used as kitchen gas.

“The auction was positive from a legal standpoint since we provided all normative principles of transparency and democratic access to infrastructure. It is important from a standpoint of service to the local market, since all companies that already operated there participated and continue within the system, reducing any risk of shortages.  From a financial standpoint it was very interesting for Transbel, since it resulted in an important reassessment of the service provided, explained Marcus Loureiro Marinho, Sector Contract Manager.

“We also understand that this brings about a change. Previously we provided a service, especially for LPG, to a single carrier, Petrobras, and now we will provide them for four companies simultaneously. This translates into higher revenue and the challenge of coordinating and managing four new clients”, added Transpetro New Business consultant Dêmison Dutra Fernandes.

According to Dêmison the operations will bring financial benefits to Transbel. “Each lot has a minimum handling quantity that was required from each of these companies. The results were above the minimum bids. We will have an immediate revenue increase upon the signing of these contracts”, he stated.

The participation of the winning companies in the auction in the market share of the State of Pará corresponds to the volume of each lot: lot A has 40% of its capacity; lot B,  30%; lot C, 20%; and lot D, 10%.  NGB has 40.5% market share, while Copa Energia has 29.5%,  Supergasbras, 16.7% and Ultragaz, 9.4%.

“The auction held was a success for Transbel and the market. It was good from the standpoint that it met the current market supply needs of the four main companies that operate there. The dynamics of the auction, specifically, were very satisfactory for Transbel”, celebrated Kassem Zaidan, commercial coordinator of the fuel distributors.

“In January 2023, firm contracts were signed with the four distributors, with five years terms starting in February, thus assuring predictability of revenue for Transbel, with higher results than initially expected”, commented Thales Carneiro, Sector Manager for Derivative and Biofuels Client Relations. The four contracts totaled approximately R$ 390 million.
