Transpetro was one of the companies invited for the first edition of the ESG Energy Forum, an event that gathered different agents in Rio de Janeiro between June 20-22 to integrate them through experiences and connections with the public sector, the private sector, and third sector agents. Promoted by the Brazilian Oil and Gas Institute (IBP), the forum focused on the oil, gas and energy industry, which has an essential role in the transition to a low carbon emission economy, mitigating social impact.
“Transpetro complies with human rights directives in which it makes the commitment to promote, respect and use due diligence (a detailed information and document analysis and assessment process for various sectors) in this area. Our commitments includes promoting diversity in its workforce, respect for human rights in the communities, and the divulging of these commitments to the supply chain and partners”, noted Karen Joyce, Community Relations Coordinator.
The interdependency between social, environment and governance were emphasized by the coordinator, who alerted that this latter aspect “coexists to integrate the agenda, creating more equality, for this is what we need to support: minimum guarantee of human rights, the search for human dignity”. According her, “in this scenario, companies, environmental agencies, public sector and foundations such as Runai and Palmares Cultural Foundation need to be on the same side – all supporting the local, municipal and state development in transparent manner, constructive and engaged. It is the policy of affection, what we most need at the moment”.
The event also covered other issues: energy transition as a way to a future with less emissions; Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS); carbon market in the context of the large oil companies; and green hydrogen.
