Transpetro brings together government and security agencies in São Paulo to debate pipeline safety

On Monday (6/6), Transpetro held the Seminar on Third Party Actions in Pipeline Zones in São Paulo. The purpose of the meeting was to alert the state authorities regarding the fight against fuel theft in the pipeline zones operated by the Company.
The seminar brought together representatives of Transpetro, Petrobras, Fire Department, Military Police, São Paulo State Environmental Company (Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo  - Cetesb), Federal Highway Police, Federal Revenue Service, São Paulo Government, civil defenses and state governments.
During the meeting, the occurrence of fuel thefts in the pipelines operated by the company was highlighted. From 2011 to May this year, the company registered 71 cases in São Paulo. The president of Transpetro, Antonio Rubens Silva Silvino, highlighted his concern, since years ago there was at most one per year in the state.
“This represents a huge environmental and social risk. Our purpose, even with this Seminar, is to engage all bodies for an integrated fight against this type of crime. The time has come to act with even more determination”, warns Rubens, noting that the transportation of oil and oil products, made through a network of 14 thousand kilometers of pipelines, is the safest and most efficient way that exists.
The Executive Manager of Corporate Intelligence and Corporate Security at Petrobras, Maria Regina de Luca, recalls that Petrobras has been developing preventive actions such as agreements with the Police and the Gaeco (Grupo de Atuação Especial de Repressão ao Crime Organizado), the special group to repress organized Crime of the Attorney General's Office .
Jorge Luiz Nobre Gouveia, Cetesb's manager, praised Transpetro's performance in emergencies caused by fuel leak due to theft. “Communication has worked well. In these cases, we take part much more in the issue of safety than in that of the environment. More than inspectors, we have been partners of Transpetro in emergencies ”, comments Gouveia.
In the opinion of Lieutenant Colonel Rodrigo de Lima Dib, of the Fire Department, the seminar was important to raise awareness on the subject. "We must act more and more in prevention".
For the Undersecretary of Oil and Gas of the Government of São Paulo, Dirceu Abraão, the way to fight this type of crime is prevention. "It is important to unite the organs of the State in this work", he says.
