Transpetro conducted today, 8/16, a training in the community of Jardim Nair in the East Zone of São Paulo, simulating a diesel spill caused by an attempted theft of diesel from a pipeline operated by the company. The exercise is one of the preventive actions developed by the company to test emergency response strategies and train teams. The simulation was held on Easement Strip Safety Day, created by Transpetro to warn the residents about the risks of these criminal activities, which may result in serious consequences such as fire, explosions, spills, pollution and contamination of environmentally sensitive areas.
The training was held on a section of the Osvat SP-GRU (São Paulo-Guarulhos) pipeline. Over 400 persons participated in the exercise, reproducing a situation of a pipeline breach by criminals, resulting in a diesel spill followed by fire and a victim requiring medical care. All the contingency work and repair of the installations was simulated, including the transfer of injured person to a regional hospital, traffic control with closing of streets and arrest of the perpetrators. The community witnessed the event and approximately 250 residents were evacuated from a 100 meter radius from the location.
