Transpetro will resume procurement of ships

The President of Transpetro, Sérgio Bacci, stated on Thursday (4) that the company has created a task force to study a new model for procurement of ships, highlighting that this will be one of the missions of his tenure. The executive further noted that the resumption of acquisitions will occur within responsible parameters and  “will not be at any price or schedule”.

Bacci said Brazil needs to  resume its shipbuilding industry and that Transpetro in its role of logistic arm of Petrobras will support this initiative.

“I arrive at Transpetro with the mission of resuming shipbuilding in Brazilian shipyards. It is the first decision of this management team and for this we formed a task force that in 60 days will introduce a project with a new procurement model and the number of ships ", stated the executive at a press conference.

According to Bacci, the building of new vessels will prioritize the needs of Petrobras, the Transpetro controller. In the long term, the oil company will benefit from the expansion of its owned fleet because it will reduce its exposure to charter cost fluctuations and promote more efficient logistics.

The Transpetro President further emphasized one of the main directives of the task force. “ The procurement of ships will follow responsible parameters and all governance procedures. We will order new ships, but not at any price or schedule”, he stated.

Bacci added that he met with the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) and the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) so they can join the procurement process early on in order to follow all legal provisions. The resources for this program will come from the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM) that was developed for this type of financing.

“We are in contact with the federal government in order to include this project among those that will be prioritized in the future investments program. In addition, we will part of the joint commission between Petrobras and BNDES that seeks to facilitate the presentation of financing projects for Petrobras”, explained Bacci.

The environment is also on the agenda of the new President. “The world is concerned with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and we should include this issue. For this reason the project for future ship procurement calls for green navigation technologies”.

Bacci further highlighted the land logistics wing of Transpetro and its environmental advantage relative to other modes. Just one pipeline operated by company – Osbra, the São Paulo-Brasília oil pipeline, has the capacity to replace transportation that would have been made by double trailer trucks and prevent the emission of approximately 200 thousand tons of CO2 yearly.

 Civil Service Exam

Bacci declared that a new civil service exam will be held by year end to restore the company workforce and to increase diversity and female leadership in the  company.

“We want to promote improvements in the internal selection processes in order to increase diversity in our leadership”, he concluded.
