With simulators it is possible to practice situations and emergency procedures without placing people and the business at risk, preparing the workforce for the most adverse situations. The equipment provides an immersive learning environment, where theory is placed into practice, developing attitudes and skills required for efficient and safe operations.
In a world of increasing technology, simulator training is an important learning tool. Studies at the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science show that simulators have a content retention rate of 78%; audiovisual, just over 20%; and reading and seminars, about 15%.
The Maritime and Waterway Simulator (SMH) of the Transpetro Academy has the capability to model any type of ship, allowing for the creation of various virtual reality scenarios in a controlled immersive environment. Faced with emergency situations, the workforce is able to develop the necessary skills and competence for its onboard activities, such as situational awareness, sense of urgency, leadership and self-confidence. In this manner it becomes more qualified in decision making and execution of increasingly safer activities.
